It’s important to note that while some people might prefer a certain Parisian neighbourhood over another, all 20 arrondissements have something unique to offer, and therefore the results of the quiz are just general suggestions based on certain preferences.
1st Arrondissement
The 1st Arrondissement is the historic heart of Paris, home to some of the most famous buildings and landmarks in the French capital. It is the district of (half) Ile de la Cité and the Kings of France, with the Royal Palace, the Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre and the Seine River, best enjoyed from the water on a Seine River cruise. This is also the district of Les Halles, a Paris neighbourhood historically known as “the belly of Paris,” which is less upmarket than the areas around the Louvre but offers a good choice of accommodation and restaurants for all kinds of travellers.
2nd Arrondissement
The 2nd Arrondissement is a bustling district that is home to the Paris Stock Exchange, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and the Palais Royal. It is also known for its covered passageways, which are lined with shops and restaurants. The most famous of these is the Passage des Panoramas, which dates back to 1799 and is the oldest covered passageway in Paris. This arrondissement is also home to the Grands Boulevards, which are lined with theatres, cinemas and cafes.
3rd Arrondissement
The 3rd Arrondissement is known as the Marais district, which is one of the oldest and most charming neighbourhoods in Paris. It is home to many historic buildings, including the Musée Carnavalet, which is dedicated to the history of Paris, and the Place des Vosges, which is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris. The Marais is also known for its trendy boutiques, art galleries, and cafes.
4th Arrondissement
The 4th Arrondissement is also part of the Marais district and is home to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which is one of the most famous landmarks in Paris. It is also home to the Hôtel de Ville, which is the city hall of Paris, and the Centre Pompidou, which is a modern art museum. The 4th Arrondissement is known for its narrow streets, historic buildings, and trendy cafes.
5th Arrondissement
The 5th Arrondissement is known as the Latin Quarter, which is the student quarter of Paris. It is home to the Sorbonne University, which is one of the oldest universities in the world, and the Panthéon, a mausoleum that contains the remains of many famous French figures. The Latin Quarter is also known for its lively atmosphere, with many cafes, bars, and restaurants.
6th Arrondissement
The 6th Arrondissement is home to Saint-Germain, which is one of the most fashionable neighbourhoods in Paris. It is known for its high-end boutiques, art galleries, and cafes. The 6th Arrondissement is also home to the Luxembourg Gardens, one of the most beautiful parks in Paris.
7th Arrondissement
The 7th Arrondissement is where the Eiffel Tower stands proudly as one of the most famous landmarks in Paris. It is also home to many other famous buildings, including the Hôtel des Invalides, a military museum, and the Musée d’Orsay.
8th Arrondissement
The 8th Arrondissement is home to the Champs-Élysées, one of the most famous avenues in the world. It is also home to many other famous landmarks, including the Arc de Triomphe, the Place de la Concorde, and the Grand Palais.
9th Arrondissement
The 9th Arrondissement is known for the Opera Garnier, one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris. It is also home to many theatres, including the Folies Bergère, a famous cabaret.
10th Arrondissement
The 10th Arrondissement is home to the Canal Saint-Martin, a picturesque waterway lined with trendy cafes and boutiques. It is also home to the Gare du Nord, one of the busiest train stations in Europe.
11th Arrondissement
The 11th Arrondissement is a hotbed of creativity, with many art galleries, craft breweries, theatres, and music venues. It is also home to the Place de la Bastille, a historic square that played a key role in the French Revolution.
12th Arrondissement
The 12th Arrondissement is known for its local flair, with many markets, parks, and gardens. It is also home to the Bois de Vincennes, which is a large park that is perfect for picnics and outdoor activities.
13th Arrondissement
The 13th Arrondissement is home to the Butte-aux-Cailles, a charming neighbourhood that is known for its narrow streets and colourful houses. It is also home to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, one of the largest libraries in the world.
14th Arrondissement
The 14th Arrondissement is known for Montparnasse, a historic neighbourhood that was once the centre of the artistic community in Paris. It is also home to the Catacombs of Paris, an underground ossuary that contains the remains of millions of Parisians.
15th Arrondissement
The 15th Arrondissement is the most populous district in Paris, with a mix of 19th-century and modern apartment blocks. It is home to many parks, including the Parc André Citroën, perfect for picnics and outdoor activities.
16th Arrondissement
The 16th Arrondissement is home to Trocadéro, a historic neighborhood that is known for its elegant streets and high-end boutiques. It is also home to the Bois de Boulogne, a large park that is perfect for picnics and outdoor activities.
17th Arrondissement
The 17th Arrondissement is home to the Batignolles-Monceau neighbourhood, a fashionable and residential area. The Batignolles are an up-and-coming Parisian neighbourhood, and the Cité des Fleurs is a particularly picturesque pedestrian street.
18th Arrondissement
The 18th Arrondissement is home to Montmartre, one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Paris. Over the years, Montmartre has been home to artists like Van Gogh and Picasso and the setting for movies such as An American in Paris and Amélie Poulain. Montmartre is full of charm, with its cobbled streets, stunning Basilica, artists, bistros, and a village atmosphere. This arrondissement also includes Pigalle, known for its nightlife and the Moulin Rouge.
19th Arrondissement
The 19th Arrondissement is situated on the right bank of the River Seine and is known as Butte-Chaumont. It includes two public parks: the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, located on a hill, and the Parc de la Villette, which is home to the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, a museum and exhibition center, the Conservatoire de Paris, one of the most renowned music schools in Europe, the Cabaret Sauvage, the Zénith de Paris, and the Philharmonie de Paris, both part of the Cité de la Musique. The 19th Arrondissement is certainly a popular neighbourhood in Paris, with heaps of culture and great hangout spots.
20th Arrondissement
The 20th Arrondissement is a residential district that is popular among backpackers, with inexpensive hotels and hostels. The 20th Arrondissement is also home to Belleville and Père Lachaise, the largest cemetery in Paris and the final resting place of many famous people, including Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and Edith Piaf.
