An amazing destination: Boulogne-sur-Mer
I have got wind of an amazing destination: Boulogne-sur-Mer and the boulonnais area, a destination bursting with energy. Whether you’re on land, in the sea or in the air, there are so many activities to enjoy together here. And the ideal opportunity to explore the Boulonnais region in a different way.
Share the absolute experience:The main sail flaps in the wind, the jib sheet resists and the rollers break on the hull. Up to my waist in the water, I struggle somewhat to hold the boat still in the waves while the instructor makes the final adjustments.Hobby cat outing imminent ! The instructor beckons me to climb up on the trampoline, and we’re off. The wind seems manageable, even if a few light breezes tickle the sails. A sudden gust whips the hull of the small catamaran right out on the water. We need to do something. Fast. Act as a counterbalance. I hook my safety harness to the trapeze and in a few seconds, I find myself suspended above the water! The boat surfs on a single hull, a few strands of hair fly about my face and a pleasant feeling of lightness washes over me.We pass a group of kayak then a windsurf, which tries to catch us up . Would it dare to take us on. But on this gently rippling sea, the catamaran sails along without worrying about this harmless opponent. The instructor suggests I take hold of the tiller and I proudly accept to change positions. It is time to tack. The manoeuvre is quick and effective. My crewmate and I are perfectly synchronised. I keep us heading towards the beach, my hands gripped rather tightly on the tiller. In the distance, I can see sand yachts tearing along, as if they were going to take off. The shore is approaching too quickly for my taste: my first outing is already over.Galloping horses arrive on the beach and the deafening sound of their hooves on the sand, the sun’s rays at the close of day and the riders’s dexterity fascinate me.A shadow falls on the sand, and then another. I lift my eyes and notice mutlicoloured spots flitting about in the sky: they are paragliders or kite surfs.A shiver goes down my back as I watch the kite surf boards take off several metres in the air or the paragliders taking to the skies from the top of the Crche Cliff. A little bit of me envies the freedom that guys must feel, with the ability to fly like birds. The coast, viewed from the sky, must be exceptional.Get wind of the events:2nd and 3rd of October: Hardelot – 16th International Hardelot kite-surf festival9th October : Wimereux – North Sea Cup (windsurfing competition)16th October: Wimereux – Slective de ligue extrme glisse de planche Voile. – windsurfing competitionFor more information about events and what to do in Boulogne sur Mer and the boulonnais area, visit www.tourisme-boulonnais.com
