4 things to do before taking your pet abroad

Do you know all the documentation and vaccinations your dog or cat needs before you take them with you on a trip to France?

1. Your pet must have a microchip. This should be fitted before they have vaccinations and the microchip number, location and date it was put in must be recorded on your pet’s passport.

2. Your pet must be vaccinated against rabies. This should be done a minimum of 21 days before travelling and you must keep up to date with booster vaccinations. Make sure the vet records the vaccinations in your pet passport.

3. Dogs must be treated for tapeworm no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours (five days) before your return to the UK

4. Your pet must have a pet passport, issued by your vet and up to date with proof that your pet has been microchipped, vaccinated and treated for tapeworm.
