The biggest snowfall in decades fell on Paris and it looks like a fairy tale

Paris has turned white after heavy snowfall hit the French capital this week. The snow caused travel chaos and closed the Eiffel Tower but it also encouraged Parisians to get their cameras and skis out! These are some of our favourite pictures of snowy Paris

Heavy snow fell across France and took Parisians in particular by surprise as they awoke on 7 February to several centimetres of snow covering the streets and roads of central Paris. Public transport and road traffic were severely affected as a cumulative 600km of traffic jams paralyzed much of the Île-de-France region, while tourist hotspots such as the Eiffel Tower and the towers of Notre-Dame were closed.

While some locals were disappointed by the authorities’ apparent lack of preparation, others have taken to skiing, snowboarding and sledging in the parks to make the most of weather conditions that have not been seen in Paris since 1987. Find out more here:
